Great Sydney Day Trips to Get Out of the City

Sydneysiders are known for loving the fast paced and exciting atmosphere of one of Australia's most bustling cities. But we know for a fact that they also relish the times they get to take day trips out of the city to some of the amazing places just outside of the city centre. Some places take a few hours in the morning to get to, others under an hour and you'll arrive at a great local destination to find a new experience. So... where would you like to go?

Bondi Beach

30 minutes from city centre

Some would say that Bondi Beach is the trend capital of Sydney; full of surfies, travellers and popular with Sydney socialites. Everyone from backpakers to billionaires enjoy this world famous beach spot. Just a short drive from the city centre, Bondi Beach is an excellent day trip for great weather days to enjoy the sunshine. Activities to soak up the sun include exploring the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk or a visit to the famous Bondi Baths for a spot of lunch at Icebergs.

Lake Macquarie 

1 hour 40 minutes minute drive north of Sydney

Lake Macquarie is Australia's largest coastal salt water lagoon and the largest permanent salt water lake in the southern hemisphere. Just under two hours from Sydney, Lake Macquarie has lots to offer to visitors to the area including fishing, boating and plenty of restaurants. Blue Mountains

Two-hour drive from city centre

Experience the amazing panoramic views of one of this World Heritage Area. The Blue Mountains is a great day trip for nature lovers. Full of nature walks  and Aboriginal culture, the Blue Mountains has lots to offer to visitors. Within the Blue Mountains National Park you can take a ride and dine on the Nepean Belle Paddlewheeler, an old style paddleboat with charm and sophistication, where you can ride along and have a meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hunter Valley

Two hours and 45 minutes from city centre

Home to over 150 wineries in the region, the picturesque views of the Hunter Valley are stunning for a day trip. A relaxed atmosphere in the valley and a long list of activities including winery tours, plenty of gardens and some great places to eat.

So if you're a local Sydneysider or in the area for a few days sometime soon, spend a few hours getting away from the city to explore some of the fantastic local regions of NSW. There's so much to offer, you won't be disappointed.
