People put way too much pressure on having a good time on New Year’s Eve. We’re all too concerned with where we’re going to be and what we’re going to wear that we forget what it’s all about – celebrating the year that was, and bringing in the new one to come.
So this year, we’re determined to make sure everyone’s New Year’s is a good one. There are plenty of ways to celebrate in this glorious city of ours… You just have to know where to go!
The Best of Fed Square Without Having to Go to Fed Square
Every year thousands of revellers flock to Fed Square for the fireworks, making the city quite undesirable to those who don’t love a crowd. But there’s a reason for it – the fireworks are fantastic, as is the view of the Yarra.
We say beat the crowds and get the best of both worlds by packing a picnic and plonking yourself down below Fed Square by the river. As long as you don’t mind sitting on the ground (think ahead-ers will bring a picnic blanket), you’ll enjoy the fireworks in all their glory, without the constant bumping into people.
View the St Kilda Fireworks From a Distance
The St Kilda fireworks are an iconic part of the Melbourne NYE scene. So much so, they’re now notorious with the more hardcore party people of the city.
The good news is, you don’t have to hide away from the St Kilda fireworks. Just across the water is the suburb of Frankston, where they’re having a slightly quieter celebration and admiring the view of the St Kilda fireworks from afar. It’s sure to boost your chances of having a decent night out.
Go Wild in the West Suburbs
We don’t all live near the CBD, nor do we all want to travel far on NYE. So those living in the western suburb of Footscray will be pleased to know they don’t have to travel far at all, since the party is coming to them!
For the sixth year in a row, Footscray Park is where the action will be, with a massive concert featuring hits from the ’80s, Tina Turner tributes, and plenty more. If you’re up for a cheesy but fun night of old hits and fireworks with your mates, Footscray Park is the place to be.

Escape the City Altogether
Sometimes it’s not about what you do, but who you spend it with. And if a more intimate New Year’s Eve spent with close friends, wine and good food sounds right up your alley, then we’ve got the perfect idea.
Get organised, get in the car, and get out to the stunning Mornington Peninsula for the festivities. You’ll avoid the crowds entirely, but still have a great time – and you can easily complete your New Year’s resolution to try more new wines (we just guessed that’s what it is, since it’s definitely ours).
Bring in the New Year in Style
Of course, if you don’t want to plan anything beyond your perfect NYE outfit, a party package that does all the work for you is the way to go. Take our offer at Oscars Table in Docklands for example – their guests will sit down for a three-course meal before indulging in four hours of unlimited drinks (within reason of course). They’ll dance the night away with a live DJ, and they’ll be in prime position to see the famous Docklands fireworks. All you need to do is rock up on the night, making it fun and stress-free!
