Quirky Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Whether you’re playing the dating game or simply want to break the routine in your relationship, you’ll know it’s not always easy to think of new places to go and things to do. After all, we’re not in The Bachelor where there’s a whole team of producers dreaming up lavish and life-changing date scenarios. And as easy and comfortable as it can be to simply meet at our favourite local, if you’re trying to impress someone this V-Day, a bit of creativity can go a long way. Have a look at our list of unusual date ideas and get inspired this year!

Take your date for a spin

If you’re not afraid of being a little too romantic, why not hop aboard a ferris wheel such as the Melbourne Star or Brisbane Eye and enjoy the company of someone special while metres up in the sky? Even if you do head to your local pub afterwards, you’ll have still enjoyed a memorable evening  that you can look back on and think, “I did that once!’.

Put your wits to the test

If you’re getting to know someone new, an escape room experience could be great for three things: getting to know how the person reacts under pressure; what their strong points are; and how well you work together as a team. An escape room is fun, creative, and definitely provides conversation material for later!

Gain some Dutch courage

A drink or two is always good to help with nerves and let your natural conversationalist come through, but instead of a risking going overboard at a pub, try something a bit more civilised with a wine tour. You’ll discover new places, try new wines and learn something new, all whilst enjoying the company of your date. It’s a win-win!

Show off your skills

If your cooking skills aren’t fantastic but you’d still like to impress your date, a cooking class is foolproof. Under the careful guidance of your teacher, it’s hard to mess up your meal too much, plus you’ll both have fun learning how to cook something new. And the best part is you’ll most likely get to enjoy your fare once you’re done!

Go back to the good old days

Bowling was such a popular date idea in the ‘50s and ‘60s – and quite frankly, we’re not sure what’s changed! It’s fun, it’s active and it’ll make you laugh which eases the nerves – so we say, don’t be afraid of being a bit old fashioned. You just might want to warn your date about the dorky shoes beforehand…

Discover your animal instincts

If you’re planning a day-date, why not do something a bit different and plan a trip to your local zoo? With so many animals and exhibits to see, you won’t be short of things to talk about, plus the zoo isn’t something you visit every day, so it’s likely to be something of interest for both parties. A day-date can also be a great way to see where you stand – if they’re interested, you can always try to extend the date to dinnertime!
