Spicy, sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. Thai flavours are a roller-coaster ride for our taste buds! However, the cuisine is all about finding a balance between these intense, vibrant flavours.

So, in the spirit of trying bold new flavours and jumping into new experiences, here are our top 5 eateries in Phuket. It was tough to narrow it down to just 5, so hopefully we’ve found the right balance!

 

1. Baan Rim Pa

A warm atmosphere, stunning location and sensational food. Baan Rim Pa has got it all!

Perched majestically on a small cliff overhanging the beach (In Thai Baan Rim Pa means ‘The House by the Cliff’) it offers diners sweeping views of Patong Bay. Baan Rim Pa oozes class and refinement.

Must trys on the menu include, soft crab fried with chili jam and garlic, the decadent lobster green curry and the sumptuous duck in thick creamy curry sauce and lychees.

The philosophy of the eatery is that all diners should be able to sample Royal Thai Cuisine in a regal setting. With food this good, you’ll feel like royalty too!

2. Raya Restaurant

This is a must-try restaurant in Phuket! It’s the place to go to sample real Thai cooking. You know it has to be good because the locals eat here too!

Located on New Dibuk Road in Phuket Town’s old quarter, Raya serve up delicious, authentic Thai cuisine in a beautifully quaint setting. Raya Restaurant’s charming old building is an example of the Sino-Portuguese architecture found in Phuket Town’s old quarter.

Tantalising signature dishes include, the sumptuous crabmeat curry with rice vermicelli, caramelized and braised pork belly and deep-fried sea bass with shallots and red chillies in tamarind and lemongrass sauce.

Get in early and book a table on the nautically-themed beachfront terrace for tranquil al fresco dining. Have a penchant for the dramatic? Let the chef prepare you a dish at your tableside. You can pick from such options as the classic Steak Diane, grilled Dover Sole or Crepes Suzette.

If you’re feeling like seafood, sink your teeth into the Trilogy of Rock Lobster – done three ways: with Green curry sauce, Armagnac sauce and Thermidor.

4. Mom Tri’s Kitchen at Villa Royale

Mom Tri’s Kitchen has a winning combination: gorgeous architecture, amazing food and a view to die for.

Stunning traditional Thai décor is sprinkled with beautiful modern updates; the terracotta-tiled floor and floating wooden decks merge together seamlessly.

A mouth-watering menu features dishes like the slow-cooked veal cheek in red wine sauce with porcini mushrooms and the Phuket tuna ‘provençal’ with carrot puree, roasted yellow peppers and cherry tomato ketchup! The sublime Western and Thai menus are extensive, ranging from traditional dishes to fusion creations.

5. Home Kitchen, Bar & Bed

Eclectic, funky décor? Check. Great music, cocktails and a chilled out vibe? Check. Delicious food? Checkity Check!

Set sail for an amazing dining experience at Home Kitchen, Bar & Bed. On your way in check out the eye-catching interior design by Australian industrial artist John Underwood – he’s known for repurposing old objects and incorporating them into his work. The second floor literally looks like the hull of an old ship, turned upside down, with the end cut off (It reveals a dazzling view of the ocean!)

Make it your mission to sample some of the scrumptious seafood including, the king scallop carpaccio with spicy ginger and coriander dressing or the curry infused calamari. While you’re at it try one of the house mixologist’s creations; our pick is the Home Strawberry & Passion Mojito (a mix of fresh strawberries and passion fruits scattered with mint, lime, and Havana anejo).
